Hunting Terrier Breeding

First German Hunting Terriers were brought to the former Czechoslovakia in the 50-ties of last century. Mostly they came from Germany, Austria and later on from Yugoslavia. The very first birth of this breed was recorded in the Pedigree Book in 1955. Throughout the years the number of this breed was increasing; first the breeding was registered with other terrier breeds, which lasted by 1969.

On May 17th, 1969 there was held a constitutive meeting in Zvolen conducted by the following gentlemen: Ing E.Krautschneidera, Dr. L. Léderera, Ing. R. Krasuľu ,Kolomana Slimáka, V. Michelčíka and others. Mr. Ing Gustáv Cmarko became the first chairman.

The Club was active in the entire Czechoslovak Republic. There occurred several significant changes in the management; the Club´s activity gradually improved. Since the half of seventies the Club had become already stable; and under management of Mr. Jozef Čierny. The breeding was administrated by Dr. Dušan Antalík, and Ing. Ľudovít Kicko was a trainer. The Club achieved a significant quality improvement of bred material with the number of about 300 bred dogs in the whole ČSSR. Regular and fox tests were held. This was the time of first versatile tests, as well. Work on surface was then promoted. Such state had remained till 1992, when the Czech breeders decided to found their own club. Later on, following the Republic´s split-up, a new club was founded in 1993 - the Moravian-Silesian Club.

The Slovak Committee was joined by other members: František Šlesár, Zdeno Čierny, Dr. Pavol Baláž, Ondrej Garaj and others. The same year Dr. Antalík and Kicko attended a meeting of JGDT breeders´ representatives from Europe in Rust, Austria, where they founded an International Club of German Hunting Terrier Breeders, IVDJ. Slovakia became its member and nowadays it actively takes part in their happenings. In 1999 on the occasion of 30th anniversary of KCHJGT founding we organized an "International JGDT breeding show" in Martin. Members of our Club achieved nice results at shows organized by ICDJ in Austria and Switzerland. They took part in "Dr. Lackner´s memorial race", the top full-purpose tests in Germany, which were organized also by their Club.

At the present there are 439 members in our club.
